Travis Kemnitz (he/him) is an empowering and inspiring leader whose vision for the future shines bright. Serving as Executive Director of the San Diego Bird Alliance since 2020, Travis leads a dedicated team of ecologists, conservationists, land managers, and outdoor educators.

San Diego Bird Alliance delivers innovative, award-winning programs focused on outdoor nature education, community-based habitat restoration, endangered species recovery, and community science. Under his leadership, the organization has grown from $800,000 to a $2 million annual budget, changed its name to San Diego Bird Alliance, underwent a financial management overhaul, and advanced innovative and well respected initiatives like ReWild Mission Bay.

With 25 years of experience in the nonprofit sector, Travis has developed extensive skills in business operations, board development, educational program implementation, and fundraising. He is known for addressing inequities in access to science and conservation education for underserved youth, building bridges to create inclusive opportunities. Prior to his role at San Diego Bird Alliance, he made significant contributions as an empowering educator and environmental champion at the Ocean Discovery Institute.

A proud alumnus of the RISE San Diego Urban Leadership Fellows and a USD Horizon Nexus Scholar, Travis holds a B.A. in Environmental Studies from the University of San Diego. His commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives aligns perfectly with his vision of fostering a sustainable future for all.
